ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS

What’s in those privacy statements? Who knows? Do you actually read them? Datazone’s privacy statement contains more than your typical rights and data sharing information. It has a few hidden nuggets of privacy piracy that you would be unknowingly agreeing to by just clicking through. Read through the policy and see if you can find all 13 “gotchas” hidden in the policy. You can highlight it by clicking anywhere on a suspect line with your mouse. If you’re right, it will be highlighted, and you can keep reading to find the next privacy trap in the policy.

Find at least six examples of privacy policy before clicking on the Complete Activity button. But we encourage you to look for all 13!

Datazone Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to Datazone. This Privacy Policy describes how Datazoneprivacy.com and its affiliates (collectively “Datazone”) collect and process your personal information through the Datazone website (hereafter “the Site”) and applications that reference this Privacy Policy. By using Datazone Services, you are consenting to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

What Constitutes Personally Identifiable Information?

“Personally identifiable information” means any information that identifies you as an individual or has the ability to identify you as an individual. The only personally identifiable information that Datazone collects and/or stores is the personally identifiable information that you voluntarily submit to Datazone, as well as credit card numbers, birthdates and social security numbers for your first-born child, spouse and maternal grandmother. No other personally identifiable information is collected by Datazone. Datazone collects information about you or your use of Datazone‘s website (the “Site”) when you:

  • Subscribe to a service, product or tool provided by Datazone;
  • Communicate with Datazone in any form;
  • Take part in surveys or provide Datazone with feedback;
  • Visit or log onto the Site.

Personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide to Datazone may be retained indefinitely for the purposes identified in this Privacy Policy, which include using your credit card number to rent motorized scooters on the third Thursday of each month for use by all members of our customer service team at their convenience. Any personally identifiable information you voluntarily provide to Datazone will be stored in a secure environment.

How Does Datazone Use Your Personal Information?

We use your personal information to operate, provide, develop, and improve the products and services that we offer our customers. These purposes include:

Cookies

Datazone may collect information about you based on your use of the Site by using “cookies.” Cookies are pieces of information placed on your computer‘s hard drive that record information about your presence on the Site. The information captured by the use of cookies is in aggregate form only and in a manner that does not reveal your personal identity. You may set your browser controls to reject cookies or to notify you when a site attempts to place a cookie on your computer, though doing so will cause us to create an embarrassing meme about you and post to a variety of social media at our discretion. Rejecting cookies may affect your ability to use some of the services on the Site.

Does Datazone Share Your Personal Information?

We do not ever sell or share our customers’ personal information with other organizations, except when it’s particularly profitable. We share customers’ personal information only as described below and with subsidiaries of Datazoneprivacy.com, Inc., which may or may not be subject to this Privacy Policy or follow practices at least as protective as those described in this Privacy Policy, depending solely on our discretion and general mood.

Other than explained above, we don’t share or sell your personal information, and you will receive notice when personal information about you might be shared with third parties. You will have an opportunity to choose not to share that information, in the event you see the notice, which we deliver via small scrolls tied to the feet of carrier pigeons.

Congratulations on completing the activity!

Privacy notices can be time-consuming to read but it is in your best interest to understand what data is being collected about you and how it is being shared or used. You have rights to control that access and by reading the notices you can make a more informed decision about what’s happening with and who sees your data. All legitimate sites should have a privacy statement – did you read the real Datazone privacy statement?
